Colombia Yoga Retreat
Teacher Bios
Katie Schiffgen
Katie has been practicing yoga for over fifteen years and teaching since 2013. Her classes focus on breath, alignment, and strength as well as functional mobility. Her greatest hope in teaching is that she will inspire people to get to know themselves on a deeper level… to ask more questions, be more curious, pay more attention, and connect with that place deep inside of them that is their true essence. Whether you are coming to class purely for a workout, or maybe some mindful movement, or whatever else your reason might be…. she hopes her classes will offer a little something for everyone and that you will always leave feeling just a little more centered and grounded than when you came.💕
Off her mat Katie enjoys hiking with her dogs, spending time in the sun, watching Netflix, traveling, camping, drinking tea, collecting succulents, laughing, making jewelry, going on motorcycle rides with her husband, and eating delicious food — especially chocolate.
James Hardy
James is in his ninth year of teaching yoga and his schedule includes public studio classes, private instruction, corporate classes, group classes at a therapeutic boarding school for teenage boys, therapeutic classes at various recovery centers and at elementary schools with the after school program Arts Kids. His teaching styles include: Power, Vinyasa Flow, Restore, Yin and Meditation. He is a co-founder of One Love Yoga along with his partner in crime Sharon "Shazzy" Tapias.
For James surfing serves as a beautiful metaphor for yoga: “It is the opportunity to grab your mat, dive deep into yourself and practice finding the balance and strength needed to ride the waves of life.”
Sharon "Shazzy" Tapias
Of direct Colombian decent and a native Spanish speaker, Sharon is excited to bring her fellow yogis to the land so close to her heart and share the language, food, and culture of this beautiful country. Yoga has been a part of Sharon's life for over 10 years, her practice has helped her overcome physical injuries, head trauma, but most importantly it has taught her to be fearless both on and off the mat. Yoga inspires her to live each moment with boundless love and mindfulness at every breath.
Sharon completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and an additional 200 hour Extensions Program at Core Power Yoga with the intention of improving upon her own practice, but soon decided to also teach and share the healing powers of this practice with others. Sharon currently teaches alignment based power flow yoga classes at Core Power Yoga and is co-founder of One Love Yoga. Sharon's classes are full of fun energy, she thrives to inspire students to deepen their practice, improve upon a healthier life balance and remember that life goals are only accomplished with mindfulness, patience and one deep breath at a time. Alongside her yoga teaching, Sharon will be the official retreat translator and Colombian ambassador.
Perry Layne Decker
Perry Layne is excited to expand his horizons with a conscious community on an epic adventure. He has completed over 1,000 hours of teacher training and continued education with Inbody Academy, Richard Freeman, Peter Francyk and Adam Ballenger. He feels sharing yoga is the best gift he could ask for - this practice has transformed his life and he is a firm believer in wellness and self development. He devotes himself to staying a student at all times. In Perry's own words, "The benefits of Yoga are in your own hands, and as a teacher I simply want to create a doorway that helps to open up your own sense of personal awareness and conscious ability.“
In addition to his yoga teaching, Perry will be documenting this journey as the official retreat photographer/videographer. To see the full scope of his documenting experience visit his website: www.perrylayneproductions.com.
